Itinerary

Full DayRAINBOW MOUNTAIN PRIVATE TOUR

Meet up is before sunrise with the Guide, heading out Cusco on a 3-hour transfer along the southern valleys and Altiplano. The road will bring you across the village of Checacupe, which has an enchanting colonial church and a bridge with Inca foundations. You’ll also pass the towns of Pitumarca and Hanchipacha, here for a break to buy last-minute supplies and delight with breakfast. The car journey follows to Pampachiri, for a prior short brief from the Guide. Serving as the starting point, we’ll begin the 2-3 hour uphill walk, this part ensures to experience spectacular mountain views, being lucky enough to spot some eagles, alpacas, and even spongy vizcachas passing by, and of course, starting to see the colored slopes of the Red Valley.

Towering above over 5200 m. or 17060.4 ft, the Rainbow Mountain of Vinicunca will reveal as the rare cousin of its neighbor peaks. Discovered just a few years ago it offers a delightful spectacle of colors, due to the wealth of minerals that houses its soil, generated by the Earth’s erosion for millions of years. Sometimes covered in snow, you’ll enjoy it anyway if you know how to picture it at the perfect angle. Make sure you spot the Ausangate Mountain at the distance, you’ll continue wandering around and walk by some parts of the Red Valley before making your way to the lunch spot, where you will indulge in a delicious meal in a secluded crowd less location. If you feel like you need some extra help, then an emergency horse will be on command.  Hiking back downhill will be remarkably quicker. Onboard the private transport, we should be arriving at Cusco by 18:30 pm.
