You will have to raise super early to conquer today’s adventure. Taking advantage of a private car you’ll travel from Cusco to Mollepata for 3 hours stopping midway to sample sights over the lush valleys of the Apurimac River and some local communities’ farmlands. In town, get ready with a pre-tour breakfast. The last stretch car ride leads us to Soraypampa, starting point of the famed Salkantay Trek. The hike begins with spectacular Andean views, being eye-cached by the mighty Apu Salkantay Peak which stands out at more than 6200 meters. This has to be the definitive highlight of your approach to the Lake. The uphill stroll continues for 1.5-hours featuring impressive landscapes including native flora only found here. This portion can be done by horse if the hike results too challenging, but come on, you can do it!
On a last effort, the Humantay Lake hides between glacier peaks and on foot of the famous Humantay, meaning “Head of the Gods” a very respected and sacred “Apu” or God as it is a water source which ice melting results in this fabulous turquoise Lake. Tour around the lake shores with the expert Guide, finding the perfect spot or angle to shoot some photos with the stunning backdrop. It is common to see the small stone towers around the Lake, called “Apachetas” a sign of respect to the Mountains. If possible you’ll have the chance to make an offering with Sacred Coca leaves, as a way to pay respect to the Apus and thank them for the safely accomplished hike. Whenever you’re ready hike down to Soraypampa for an open-air lunch. The experience ends when it’s time to return to Cusco city on our private transport, the approximate arrival is at 18:30hrs.
